While false lashes and heavy contouring might have their place, the everyday routine calls for something a little less demanding and a lot more natural. Not only natural looking but also 100% non-toxic. Hormone friendly and Paraben-Free.
Whether you’re a makeup novice, short for time, or you simply prefer to keep your style practical and understated, the natural makeup look is a great one to master.
PREP AND PRIME
Whether you’re going full-on glam or keeping it au naturel, any great makeup look begins with the primer. With the natural look, in particular, the goal is to create a hydrated and smooth canvas for your makeup so your skin looks dewy and super healthy. When we’re in a hurry, we love to prep and prime with Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator Mist. Not only will it refresh and hydrate in one quick spray, but it will also deliver a cocktail of rich nutrients and fatty acids to your skin.
PERFECT AND CONCEAL
Heavy, caked-on foundations are a no-no for this look. Instead, look for a tinted moisturizer or lightweight foundation that will enhance rather than simply camouflage your skin. (We like to use the Nu Evolution Foundation for its natural, buildable coverage). Apply with a stiff, flat brush (such as the Sephora Foundation Brush) and blend out from the center of the face for flawless, even skin complexion.
"A tip to ensure a more natural finish when using concealer, is to look at yourself in the eye when applying. We have a tendency to zero in on all our imperfections, but no one else does."
Dominic Skinner, MAC Global Senior Artist
Need a little extra coverage? Instead of applying additional layers of foundation to the whole of your face, use a medium-coverage concealer only on the areas that need it. Hynt Concealer works well to camouflage your problem areas without creasing or cracking. Use a small-headed brush, such as the Real Techniques Setting Brush, for precise application.
Fresh, dewy skin is key to the natural look. But if your skin is on the oilier side, you might want to use a little translucent powder to lightly mattify your complexion and keep shine at bay. We like to use the W3LL People Bio Brightener Invisible Powder to set makeup – just be sure to apply with a puff brush to avoid picking up too much product.
DEFINE YOUR EYES
Save the smokey eye for later – all your eyes need for this look is a little bronzer and a good mascara. Start by applying the bronzer (we like Lily Lolo Pressed Bronzer for its sun-kissed, matte finish) to the center of your eyelid. Then use a blending brush such as Morphe’s Blending Brush to sheer it out. Next, apply two coats of mascara (we’ve used FitGlow Mascara) to give your eyes a little definition while still maintaining that soft, pretty look.
BLUSH AND BRONZE
When it comes to choosing a blusher, opt for a shade that’s as close as possible to your natural blush color. (Hint: think of the color that your skin would naturally turn if you pinched your cheeks). Alternatively, bronzer can work just as well to give you a really beautiful warm, natural glow.
We’re going to use the Lily Lolo Pressed Bronzer again – this time with the Eco Tools Bronzing Brush – to add a subtle hint of warmth to the cheeks. Apply to the top of your cheekbones in circular motions to give yourself an immediate pick-me-up, then sweep once over your forehead for a healthy glow.
LINE YOUR LIPS
Last but not least, define your lips. For the natural look, steer clear of on-trend neons or vibrant reds. Instead, stick to matte shades that mimic your natural skin tone. For the ultimate low-key lip, try pairing a nude lip liner (such as the ZUZU Lip Liner in Innocence) with your favorite lip gloss or serum. The FitGlow Lip Serum works great for this. Sweep a little serum over lightly lined lips to plump, hydrate, and sheer out your color.
And there you have it: put-together but not try-hard, this chic, minimalist makeup is easily achievable and something you can realistically do on an everyday basis.
